Area description

Legazpi is an administrative district of the district of Arganzuela, in Madrid (Spain). It owes its name to the conqueror Miguel López de Legazpi. It has trapezoidal shape and is located southeast of the district, being delimited by the streets of the Ford of Santa Catalina, Bolivar, Bronze, walk of the mill and Maestro Arbos alnorte; the M-30 ring road to the southeast and the Manzanares river and the M-30 to the south. It is surrounded by neighborhoods, belonging to the same district, of La Chopera, Las Delicias and Atocha to the north; Almendrales and Orcasitas, from the district of Usera, to the southwest, and Entrevías, from the district of Puente de Vallecas, to the southeast.
In the neighborhood there are the facilities of the Planetarium of Madrid and the IMAX (cinema in three dimensions). Both are located in the park of Enrique Tierno Galván, one of the most important in the capital, from where you can access by a pedestrian corridor to the Railway Museum located in the old Delicias Station, in the neighboring district of Delicias.
A building to be highlighted is the old fruit and vegetable market in Madrid, located in the west corner of the neighborhood. It was built in the 1930s and is rationalist style. It currently houses municipal offices, although, within the reform project of the M-30, the possibility of devoting it to other functions is considered.
The Clock House is the current headquarters of the Municipal Board of the district of Arganzuela. In the same neighborhood we find the Matadero Madrid, annex to the Madrid River in which a cultural center is developed, where the national ballet of Spain and the national dance company are also unified.
